1.
Pronunciation – Alphabets/Numbers or Singular/Plural Words
Pronunciation issue is one of the most common penalty problem in Section 1 of IELTS Listening. You may face difficulties for in correctly understanding the pronunciation for alphabets, may it be name, address, number etc. Pronunciation issue is being faced in other Sections as well is related to singular or plural words. As Indian students are writing or speaking in English with Indian accent and they are not having much exposure to foreign accent, it can be the reason for such a issue.
Useful Tip:
Try to listen to foreign accent stuff such as group discussions, radio shows, talk shows etc. in order to overcome this accent. Just Google it hear out for the UK/US foreign accent
2. Spelling
Errors
One of issue that the candidates may face while attempting IELTS listening is the correct spelling of the words being spoken in the audio. They go wrong as they are not sure about the correct spelling of words. Some candidates are well versed in spelling. On the other side, in a hurry these students don’t review their answers properly.
Useful Tip:
Try to practice reading and writing more to learn the correct spelling in order to deal with this hurdle. You may also opt for online spelling exercises by searching in Google.
3. Grammar
Grammar is another problem candidates face while attempting for IELTS Listening exam. It may happen like this when you are more focused on the information and don’t pay attention to the nearby words to predict the answer grammatically.
Useful Tip:
Do check your answer grammatically or predict it within the given 1 minute before the audio starts.
4. Choosing
Word Instruction
You are required to write the answer as per the word instruction. When there is instruction “NO MORE THAN TWO WORDS”, it conveys your answer should be of one word or two words. It doesn’t mean that you have to write only two words.
Useful Tip:
Also try to focus on understanding, apart from matching the words in the question with the words in the audio.
5.
Understanding Paraphrasing
In few of the IELTS Listening questions, especially the MCQs, you tend to miss out a question or skip the audio when there’s paraphrasing used in the audio. In this process, there are chances that you may lose confidence in opting the right answer and may go lost in the audio.
Useful Tip:
Here you need to underline keywords and focus on understanding the conversation and relate it with the underlined keywords.
